Handrail Systems

Why you should consider Silvercrest Energy for your safety handrail works

Commercial Roof Safety Systems You Can Rely On

For commercial and industrial buildings, roof access is part of day-to-day operations — from HVAC servicing and plant maintenance to solar PV inspections. However, without adequate protection, rooftops quickly become one of the highest-risk areas of any property.

Installing a professionally designed roof handrail system is one of the most effective ways to mitigate that risk. Unlike PPE or temporary measures, fixed guardrail systems provide permanent, collective fall protection, helping ensure compliance with UK Work at Height Regulations while protecting anyone accessing the roof.

At Silvercrest Energy, we specialise in commercial roof safety systems that are engineered for performance, compliance, and longevity.

Why Invest in Commercial Roof Edge Protection?

Ensure Compliance with UK Safety Regulations

Meeting your legal obligations under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 is critical for any building owner, facilities manager, or duty holder. Our systems are designed in line with BS EN standards and HSE guidance, helping you demonstrate full compliance during audits and inspections.

Protect Your Business from Liability

Falls from height remain one of the leading causes of workplace injuries in the UK. Installing a compliant roof edge protection system significantly reduces risk exposure, protecting your staff, contractors, and your business from costly claims or enforcement action.

Enable Safe Access for Maintenance & Solar

From air conditioning units to solar PV systems, modern commercial roofs are active working environments. Our non-penetrative handrail systems allow safe, unrestricted access for ongoing maintenance — without compromising roof integrity.

Avoid Roof Damage with Non-Penetrative Systems

Our freestanding, counterweighted systems eliminate the need for roof penetration, reducing the risk of leaks and preserving manufacturer warranties — a key consideration for commercial property portfolios.

Designed for Commercial & Industrial Environments

We understand that no two commercial roofs are the same. That’s why every system we install is tailored to your building’s layout, access requirements, and operational use.

Our handrail systems are ideal for:

  • Warehouses and distribution centres

  • Office buildings and business parks

  • Retail units and shopping centres

  • Manufacturing and industrial facilities

  • Schools, hospitals, and public sector buildings

Whether you manage a single property or a multi-site portfolio, we deliver scalable solutions that prioritise safety, compliance, and long-term value.

Integrated with Solar & Energy Projects

As specialists in commercial solar installations, Silvercrest Energy is uniquely positioned to deliver fully integrated rooftop solutions.

If your building already has — or is planning — a solar PV system, installing a roof safety system alongside it ensures safe access for installation, inspection, and ongoing maintenance.

This joined-up approach reduces project costs, minimises disruption, and ensures your roof is both energy-efficient and fully compliant.

Why you should consider Silvercrest Energy for your safety handrail rail works.

When instructing a Solar PV roofing company, you are often employing an electrician and a roofer. Or multiples of those exact trades.
For almost all projects, they will need to employ a scaffolding company, and that’s another thing the client, project manager, or installer needs to factor in.

Of course, we, as a group, have all those trades under one roof, plus managers who regularly facilitate these trades on any given project. With a focus on our clients’ costs, we often weigh up the costs of a permanent fixed handrail system against a temporary scaffolding or access.
All projects are different, and sometimes access for scaffolders, especially with HGV vehicles/when working on soft ground or sensitive sites, may not be suitable, and costs rise.

At other times, our clients see the cost of a temporary scaffold as a regular maintenance expense and would rather pay a one-off fee for a fixed means of roof edge protection.
And that’s where our guard and handrail systems come into their own.

Roof Edge Protection, Ballast and Fixed Systems.
Our Products

We offer different types of roof edge protection for your site.

Sometimes we fix the system to a solid masonry structure, but the bulk of our work is ballast-weight systems using galvanised prefabricated and free-standing frames that interlock with the handrail tubes via a key-clamp system.

The systems are designed in our AutoCAD system, with the ballast weights spaced according to the run length, height, and wind-calculation data for the building.

It’s especially important, and usually a very good cost-saving exercise, to install these handrail systems alongside the ballast Solar PV frames we also install. Mainly, the foot block of the rail system can often clash with the Solar PV frames.

When designing the systems together, and after an on-site survey, we have the experience to advise on where these clashes occur. We can then adopt a short-leg frame, avoid the Solar PV frame, and distribute the ballast weight elsewhere along the run. Not every upright needs a weight.

So, if you have a roof that needs re-roofing, scaffolding, handrail or Solar PV, then we are the company that you need to speak with.

Old systems Revisited. System Health Check

Newington Green School

Silvercrest Group have recently revisited this site to check on the systems as installed.
SolarTherm UK have undertaken a large-scale solar PV system, specialised roof bolt fixing points & Bauder roof flashings to maintain the school’s roof guarantee.

These were all done in association with an appointed structural engineer and in association with Islington Council.

Our ballast weight handrail systems were serviced and checked before the installation commenced.
And as a second visit shows, through saving the cost of further temporary scaffold, the fixed permanent handrail and edge protection systems provide excellent long-term savings.

These systems are designed to sit in all weathers and almost all conditions for 35+ years without major maintenance.
